Dennis Returns For The Willow Senior Golf Classic At Hanbury Manor

Clark Dennis

Last year’s Staysure Tour Number One Clark Dennis can’t wait to return to Hanbury Manor Marriott Hotel & Country Club for the Willow Senior Golf Classic from August 24-26.

The American, who finished first on the European over-50s circuit in 2017, linked up with Hanbury Manor at the start of the 2018 season and will use the hotel as his home-base for the rest of the year.

He has started his year in fine fashion, successfully defending the Senior Italian Open presented by Villaverde Resort – his third win on the Staysure Tour.

Dennis made his first appearance at the Willow Senior Golf Classic last year, finishing just outside the top ten, and the 52 year old has said he is relishing the prospect of teeing it up at his European home.

“Hanbury is a great place,” said Dennis. “It’s a beautiful hotel and manor house; it has great views and it’s a good place to practice and stay when I don’t have time to fly back home.

“I’m really looking forward to going back in August and playing there now that I’m representing them. It will be a really interesting week as Barry (Lane) played so well last year; it’s a great golf course.

“I’m hoping to get to spend a little time there before The Senior Open and play a couple of rounds so I can become a little more familiar with the course.

“It’s a great association to have, and I’m proud to represent them on the Staysure Tour.”

The Willow Senior Golf Classic helps raise vital funds for the Willow Foundation, which delivers Special Days for seriously ill young adults between the ages of 16-40. Established in 1999, the Foundation has fulfilled more than 15,000 Special Days.

The charity was founded by former Arsenal goalkeeper and TV presenter Bob Wilson and his wife Megs as a lasting memorial to their daughter Anna, who died of cancer aged 31. Anna created the idea of ‘Special Days’ which became a focus for quality of time and quality of life for her family and friends.

“Having the opportunity to play in a tournament which also helps raise money for charity is very humbling,” added Dennis. “Bob Wilson and his team do a fantastic job at Willow, and it is such a worthy cause that Duncan Sinclair (tournament patron) has chosen to support.

“It’s great seeing the Willow staff spreading awareness of the Foundation during the week, and we all hope to see plenty of spectators lining the fairways during the Bank Holiday.”

At last year’s Willow Senior Golf Classic, 1993 Ryder Cup player Barry Lane carded the lowest round ever on the Staysure Tour – a 12 under par round of 60 – as he went on to secure his sixth title on the over-50s circuit.

Entry to the Willow Senior Golf Classic is free of charge, with a £5 car parking fee. All proceeds go straight to the Willow Foundation.
