Purely Golf at Tadmarton

Tadmarton Heath, or ‘Taddy’ as it is affectionately known, is just outside Banbury and set in the delightful North Oxfordshire countryside, has recently seen a trio of changes since the start of this year.

Matt Draper has been appointed General Manager. At only 26 he is one of the youngest GMs in the South, having been the Assistant GM at Tadmarton for the past two years.

When his predecessor, David Newman, decided to reduce his hours, Matt was a shoo-in for the job.

“I came straight to Tadmarton from Bournemouth University where I gained a 2:1 in sports management,” said Matt.

“As part of my studies I had a placement at the Marriott Forest of Arden, working across all disciplines in golf operations and enjoyed every second. This gave me a taster and I was desperate to continue in the industry, so the Assistant role at Tadmarton seemed like the perfect fit. I am really excited to be trusted with the GM role and to be part of the team to be taking the club forward into the future”.

A new Course Manager has also been appointed. Jim McMurdo has arrived from Prestwick Golf Club where he was Deputy Head Greenkeeper for almost 20 years.

“I suppose the fact that I do play golf means I think as a golfer at all times. I think to myself, ‘If I was playing, would I be happy?’” said Jim, who replaced Taddy’s long-standing Greenkeeper, Brian Owen, who retired in December.

“I can’t get over how welcoming people have been,” said Jim, who was born in the Kingdom of Fife.

“I am really excited to be trusted delightful old school with the GM role and to be part of the team to be taking the club forward into the future”
