The Junior Initiative
Most golf clubs are well aware of the difficulty of building a junior section, and the challenge of keeping young golfers in the game. It is a challenge that we need to face if the game is to grow. Here at Petersfield Golf Club, we hope that we have cracked it!
Our club is unique as we have four key components, essential to establishing a Junior Section:
An outstanding developmental coaching programme. We use ‘Operation36’ which involves weekly lessons and fortnightly 9-hole events. Our young golfers cover a comprehensive curriculum featuring 12 different topics, with regular chances to apply what they have learned. In the 9-hole events, the children play each hole from 25 yards, aiming to shoot 36 or better. Once achieved, they move back to 50 yards, 100 yards and so on. They love it!
An enthusiastic and well equipped PGA Golf Professional to run the programme. Donovan has a unique background which includes 9 years of golf coaching, and 9 years of teaching PE & Games in a prep school.
Excellent facilities. Petersfield have a high standard of coaching and practise facilities, as well as an ideal 12 hole development course, South Petersfield Golf Club, to host the 9-hole events.
Strong support from the golf club’s membership and management. The club are welcoming this opportunity to invest in the future of golf. They have spent money on the practise facilities, and allowed exclusive use of the practise area and golf course during lesson and playing times.
With 40 juniors currently in the programme, Petersfield are well on their way to establishing a strong junior section at the club. If you would like to receive more information or would like to enrol your junior in this successful programme, please get in touch by email@example.com
We would love to hear from you!
