Hollinwell

NOTTSCLUBHOUSE

Golfers who find their way to Hollinwell know they have arrived at a very special place from the moment they turn the final bend on the long driveway to the Club and see a magnificent view of the course and imposing clubhouse ahead of them.

Set in the gently rolling hills of North Nottinghamshire in the heart of Robin Hood Country, only 10 minutes from the M1 J27, Hollinwell is one of the UK’s very finest examples of traditional heathland golf in Great Britain.

Currently ranked as the UK’s 37th best course by Golf World Top 100 and by National Club Golfer as an England Top 20 course, the club continues with the widely acclaimed course and environmental improvements accomplished over recent years and may well rise further up the rankings.

Hollinwell has held many prestigious professional and amateur tournaments and in June 2022, the club will host Final Qualifying for the 150th Open at St Andrews. With top UK and International players competing hard to qualify for one of only 3 places available, it promises to be another fantastic day for spectators. Entry and parking is free.

To celebrate, Hollinwell has launched a new open competition for visitors which will is available online, called The Road To St Andrews and the first prize for the winning pair is incredible – a free round at St Andrews!

The club’s professionals have held Open Championship records and most unusually for a club pro, Brian Waites also played in the Ryder Cup.  Jigger Thompson is attached to Hollinwell and qualified here for The Open in 2021 held at Royal St George’s. Who can ever forget the magnificent hole in one at the 16th on his Open debut!

Hollinwell has fascinating connections not only to ancient monks, Robin Hood, Sherwood Forest, the Ryder Cup and The Open but also to Charles Darwin, Sir Nick Faldo, Sir Peter Alliss, Matt Fitzpatrick and unique world records. Fine Golf rates the club as – “giving a 4 star joy to be alive feeling” – no wonder then that members at Hollinwell are very proud of their club.

The club extends a warm welcome to visitors from home and abroad. Go and view Robin Hood’s seat behind the second green, take a drink from the Hollin Well by the 8th tee that gives the course its name and soak up the atmosphere that only comes with a course that has a wonderful history and is truly one of the great tests of golf.

Our Course

Situated approximately 3 miles from J27 of the M1 north of Nottingham, laid out on over 400 acres of free draining sandstone. Consequently play is possible all year round making it an ideal venue summer or winter.

There are few, if any, sterner tests in England playing from the championship blocks with the course measuring 7250 yards and with a standard scratch score of 76 against the par of 72.

Visitors may play from either the white, yellow or red tees, the choice based on your own playing ability. The course still measures in excess of 6,900 yards from the whites (SSS 75) and 6,600 yards from the yellow tees (SSS 73). There are very few courses where play from the general play tees provides a standard scratch over the course par.

That said, Hollinwell remains an immensely playable course, and good golf will be suitably rewarded.

Scorecards for the The Course

Green 5493 yds Par 70 SSS 68

Yellow 6619 yds Par 72 SSS 73
White 6914 yds Par 72 SSS 75
