Paul McGinley will make his Staysure PGA Seniors Championship debut when London Golf Club plays host to the Staysure Tour, from August 2-5.

The successful Ryder Cup captain who steered Europe to victory in 2014 at Gleneagles will join a star-studded field at the Staysure PGA Seniors Championship, including 2018 KitchenAid Senior PGA Champion Paul Broadhurst, and Ryder Cup legend Colin Montgomerie, who won his first title on European soil since 2015 at the Shipco Masters promoted by Simon’s Golf Club in June.

The Irishman and three-time Ryder Cup winner will bid to secure his first over-50s victory when he tees off on the International Course at London Golf Club at the beginning of August just a week after The Senior Open Presented by Rolex at St Andrews.

“I’m really looking forward to the Staysure PGA Seniors Championship in August,” said McGinley. “It will be a real test on the International Course at London Golf Club, especially with such a competitive field set to feature.

“It will be an exciting time for the Staysure Tour with the Senior Open the week beforehand. So, I expect a lot of guys, including myself, to be pushing for two weeks of good golf to move up the Order of Merit.”

McGinley made his debut on the Staysure Tour last year and made an instant impression with a tied tenth finish at the WINSTONgolf Senior Open. The talents of the Dubliner were once again on show as he claimed a share of seventh place at the Dutch Masters before taking a runner-up spot two weeks later at the Farmfoods European Senior Masters.

The victorious 2014 Ryder Cup Captain maintained his 2017 form with a successful start to his 2018 season in Denmark. He was eight shots off the lead heading into the final round at the Shipco Masters promoted by Simon’s Golf Club, but carded a five under par round of 67 to soar up the leaderboard to fourth after holing six birdies on his back nine.

“The Staysure Tour is very exciting to be a part of and each event is always extremely competitive,” he said. “I think the Staysure PGA Seniors will be very closely fought for and it should be a great week to watch some quality golf at London Golf Club.”

The stars on the over-50s circuit will be battling it out for the £400,000 prize fund with the winner taking home £60,000 when the action gets under way at the London Golf Club in August.

Ryan Howsam, Chairman of title sponsors Staysure, said: “We are delighted that Paul has confirmed his entry into our event. He adds his name to a very strong line up which now includes Paul Broadhurst, Colin Montgomerie and a host of other Ryder Cup players and multiple European Tour winners. It really does promise to be a great event”.

Entry to the tournament is free of charge, with a £10 daily car parking charge in aid of charity.
