Long Ashton Golf Club Mixed Open 2018
A fantastic day was had by all 132 players in the Long Ashton Mixed Open on Sunday 5th August. With still no rain forthcoming the conditions were challenging as the ball ran very long and at times, bounced into the most unwelcome of places! Some couples, playing a Greensomes format, still managed some impressive scores, with the top prize of 82 gross (on countback) going to Tim Worrell & Carolyn Park of The Bristol. (pictured)
And Tracey & Martin Austin of Woodlake Park also came in with a Gross 82.
John Yuill of Newmarket Golf Club did well, being the only player who managed to drive to within 125cm of the 13th, as well as taking the best visiting team stableford prize with his partner, Jane Readman.
Long Ashton was well represented taking prizes in the best nett and the best stableford sections, including a 2nd place for our very own Ladies’ and Seniors’ Captains, Sue and David Whitaker. The best visitors’ team stableford went to Susan Reid & Sid Pratt of Costwold Edge with 36 points and best visitors’ team Gross to Martin Caulfield of LA & Nicola Hawkes of Shirehampton, who stood in at the last minute, with a Gross 83.
Lots of fun was had at the half way house with special 125th Anniversary Cupcakes on offer as well as a special free prize draw for a meal for two provided by Ben Hiles Wealth Management who sponsored the day.
Our legendary catering team provided a lovely roast for the hungry players and our Club Manager, Nick Jones, created a warm and welcoming ambiance in the clubhouse. A great day!
As always many thanks to all of the volunteers who helped to ensure this day was such a great success and especially to Annette Murfin for running the registration desk which she does so often for our Open competitions giving up her free time so willingly, Bob Brooke for doing all the scoring gosh there were lots of prize winners so well done Bob no easy task and most importantly, Carole Brooke who organised the whole event – great job everyone!
