ROEHAMPTON’S Annabel Fuller, Scotland’s Hazel MacGarvie and Carlyon Bay’s Emily Toy were the late additions to the Great Britain and Ireland team to play the Continent of Europe in the Vagliano Trophy, which starts at Royal St George’s tomorrow (Friday).

The trio completed the team of five golfers – including Berkhamsted’s Alice Hewson, Essex’s Lily May Humphreys, Julie McCarthy, Shannon McWilliam and Cheshire’s Isobel Wardle – who were selected to play in the biennial encounter at the beginning of June.

Elaine Ratcliffe, who is set to captain GB&I for the first time in the match, said: “Emily Toy’s fantastic performance to win the Women’s Amateur Championship put her straight into contention for selection, while Annabel Fuller and Hazel MacGarvie have also produced notable wins this year.”

Toy played her way into thoughts of the selectors after winning the Women’s Amateur Championship at Royal County Down, and the 21-year-old will make her Vagliano debut in Sandwich

The Cornwall player has also recorded several top 10 finishes in 2019, including the New South Wales Amateur, where she led the strokeplay qualifying, the Italian International Ladies Amateur Championship, The R&A Foundation Scholars Tournament and the English Women’s Amateur Championship, where she finished fifth.

Fuller, who represented Great Britain and Ireland in the Curtis Cup and Europe in the Junior Ryder Cup in 2018, won the Major Champions Invitational, in the United States earlier this year – where she has been a student at IMG’s Bradenton-based academy.

The English teenager, who won the 2017 Telegraph Junior Championship also finished runner-up in the Bishops Gate Golf Academy Junior Championship and the Scott Robertson Memorial.

MacGarvie comes into the team off the back of winning the St Rule Trophy in St Andrews earlier this month.

The Scot also has top 10 finishes in the Portuguese International Ladies Amateur Championship, The R&A Foundation Scholars Tournament, the Helen Holm Scottish Women’s Open Championship and the Irish Women’s Open Strokeplay Championship this year.

Royal County Down’s Olivia Mehaffey, the Arizona State University player who won April’s Pac 12 Championship and the NCAA Regional Finals in May, was forced to withdraw from the team earlier this month because of a wrist injury.

Berkhamsted’s Hannah Screen, who claimed the medal honours in the strokeplay qualifier at The Women’s Amateur, and Scotland’s Chloe Goadby were named as the non-travelling reserves when the three players were picked after the final at Royal County Down.

The GB&I team competing in the Junior Vagliano Trophy, which takes place at the same time is Beth Coulter (Kirktown Castle); Hannah Darling (Broomieknowe); Carmen Griffiths (Aboyne); Darcey Harry (The Vale Resort); Patience Rhodes (Burnham & Berrow); Ffion Tynan (Minchinhampton).
