GIRLS’ golf will get rocking in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight with the launch of an inspirational campaign to attract new players, from this month.

Girls Golf Rocks will offer free taster sessions, followed by coaching courses for girls aged five to 18 at four different locations in May and early June.

The aim is to have fun, learn a new sport, get active and play alongside friends.

There will be four clubs involved in the county’s 2019 Girls Golf Rock. They will all offer free tasters, followed by six, one-hour coaching sessions over six weeks.

Bramshaw, New Forest – Sunday, June 2 – 9-11am (coaching starts Sat June 8, 9-10am)

Cams Hall, Fareham – Sunday, May 5 – 10am-12pm (coaching starts Sun May 12, 11.30am-12.30pm

Shanklin & Sandown, Isle of Wight – Sunday, May 5, 10.30am-12.30pm (coaching starts Sun May 12, 12-1pm)

Worldham, near Alton – Tuesday, May 21, 5.30-7.30pm (coaching starts Tues June 4, 4.30-5.30pm).

Bookings can be made by visiting www.girlsgolfrocks.org/Hampshire

At the taster sessions, newcomers will get together with other beginner girls to relax and play fun games.

Equipment will be provided and there will be plenty of time to chat and make new friends over refreshments.

PGA professional coaches will lead the activities and Girls Golf Rocks ambassadors from local clubs and the county girls’ squad will be on hand to help and encourage.

Girls can wear what they like as long as it’s comfy and keeps them warm. Trainers are fine for footwear.

Girls who enjoy the taster can go on to join a beginner coaching group along with other girls and learn the basics during six weekly, one-hour sessions.

They will also have the chance to get out on the golf course on the sixth week and play in a team alongside the Girls Golf Rocks ambassadors.

They will also receive a golf club and goody bag including a Girls Golf Rocks branded polo shirt and water bottle to help them continue to play golf.

Girls Golf Rocks is run jointly by England Golf and the Golf Foundation and it’s bigger and better than ever in 2019.

Hampshire is one of 26 counties taking part this year. That’s an increase of five on 2018 when more than 1,600 girls enjoyed a taste of golf, with many going on to coaching sessions.

The other new counties for 2019 are: Cornwall, Lancashire, Lincolnshire and Worcestershire.

They join Berkshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Cheshire, Cumbria, Dorset, Durham, Essex, Gloucestershire, Kent, Leicestershire, Norfolk, Northumberland, Nottinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Staffordshire, Surrey, Sussex, Warwickshire, Wiltshire and Yorkshire in offering the scheme.
