Boyns Celebrates In Style At Waterlooville

Waterlooville’s 40th Anniversary Pro-Am turns into one big party

Thanks to its new sponsor, Facilities Management Southern, one of the longest running Pro-Ams in The PGA in England (South)’s schedule became a massive 40th anniversary celebration, and Ryan Boyns (Weald of Kent) had even more reason to celebrate by winning the highlight of the Waterlooville Golf Club’s calendar.

Sweeping the rest of the 42-strong professional field aside with his four-under-par 68*, Boyns claimed the £1,000 winner’s cheque and the £500 sponsor’s bonus**, finishing two ahead of nearest rival, James Ford (Robert Rock Academy). Guy Woodman (ProAgenda.com) shot 71 for third spot.

Off last from the 10th, Boyns was one-under after nine and cruised home with three more birdies for his 68.

Also starting at the 10th, Ford’s was a game of two halves. Out in two-over after doubling the 18th, he charged through the next nine. Three birdies on the trot from the 2nd were interrupted by a bogey on the fifth, followed by another three birdies, only to finish with one more bogey at his final hole.

In the 43-strong team event, Ford led his golfers to victory with a score of -16 and the best of the prize table.

Facilities Management Southern also supported several other events that have become a feature of the Waterlooville Pro-Am: Nearest the Pin, goodie bags, a halfway hut like no other, and hole-in-one prizes on all five of the par three holes.

The company also raised money for MIND, and to make it a fun day out for everyone, introduced other on course activities: red-flag/green-flag (a bit like ‘Beat the Pro’ but no pro involved!), straightest drive, and a unique Signature Hole Experience for one of the nearest the pin competitions.

To give the Head & Tails competition a real edge after all the prize-giving, a free membership to the club was also up for grabs to the lucky winner. The Pro-Am ended with live music in the spike bar, carrying the party well on into the evening.

Secretary Manager Mark Wycherley commented: “This year is our 40th Anniversary so we were delighted to secure the support of such a generous and proactive sponsor.”

He added: “The really great news is that Facilities Management Southern intend to support us for a few years, so hopefully this is just the start of our Pro-Am being known as one of the best for everyone involved.”
