The Annual Pro-Am Medal qualifier competition, the largest Pro-Am National event in the UK and sponsored by the Lombard Financial Group is always well supported, as it provides the winner with the opportunity to play in a Regional Competition in June with his Club Professional. On this occasion on a day when good scoring was reflected in the standard scratch being 73 against its normal par 72, with 93 men members taking part, 18 handicapper Tim Fewell delivered one of his best rounds ever. His nett 69 score means that he has earned a day partnering Head Professional Tim Hall at the prestigious Burnham & Berrow Golf Course in Somerset. The game of Tim Fewell has been in good shape recently as evidenced by his consistency in the Club’s weekly Tuesday evening 9 holes Eclectic competitions and when taking part in the Club’s Seniors events. Tim is unlikely to settle for the 1 shot reduction in his handicap which has resulted and will be seeking further improvement having benefited recently thanks to the putting coaching of the Club’s Aimpoint specialist Oli Leett.

There was further evidence of the growing influence of the Ross Club’s Juniors Academy with 2 youngsters finishing in the top 5 places of this adult competition. 16 years old Ted Williams playing off a 12 handicap matched the winner’s nett 69 medal score only to miss out on the top spot on count-back with Ted now a 11 handicapper. Another 16 year old and the Club’s 2017 Juniors Vice-Captain Liam Greig carded a nett 70 to finish in 5th place and a few days later maintained his impressive form in winning the Annual AD Evans Junior Cup with a 40 stableford points score to book his place at the Club’s Trophy Presentation Evening in September. Liam has seen his handicap reduce by 2 shots to 14. Two consistent campaigners Roger Morgan and John Sherahilo will have been delighted with their net 70 medal scores followed by Andy Baldwin and 2 handicapper Nick Ellis with nett 71’s and Mike Lawrence and Jason Skidmore with nett 72’s.

Neil Lancett who manages the Ross Club’s Men’s  ‘A’  playing in the North Gloucestershire Foursomes Division 2 League will also be pleased that his squad kick-started their 2017 campaign to recover their Division 1 status with an emphatic 6-0 whitewash win when their Cotswold Edge GC counterparts were the visitors. The successful Ross pairings were James Dobbs/James Morgan 6/5 Jason Bolton/Tim Wyatt 7/6, Ross Juniors Captain, Cam Haines/Alastair Watkins 2 up Arthur Cartwright/Gareth Jefferson 3/2 Dave Daniels/Robin Eckley 6/4 and Warren Moore/Steve Wallbank 2/1.
