Success for East Anglia’s Largest Ever Charity Golf Day at Barnham Broom
On Friday 26th October 2018, Barnham Broom was delighted to host East Anglia’s largest ever charity golf day in memory of dear friend and colleague, Brian Lemmon.
In total, over £3000 was raised for the local charity, Star Throwers, which was nominated by Mr Lemmon’s wife, Eileen, and two sons, Matthew and James. The charity, based in Wymondham, supports cancer patients and their families and offers support and advice to those affected by cancer.
Brian Lemmon was a Greenkeeper at Barnham Broom for over thirty years and was a valued member of the team and significantly contributed towards making Barnham Broom’s two 18-hole golf courses what they are today.
Over 220 golfers came together to support the event. The day began with refreshments, followed by a shotgun start for the participants who were spread out in their teams across the Valley and the Hill courses. After, all supporters enjoyed hog roast, raffle and auction. Many generous prizes were donated by both members and non-members of the club.
The hugely successful day was enjoyed by all and, with such a large turnout, is the East Anglia’s largest charity golf day to date – an achievement which Barnham Broom is keen to improve upon next year with a focus on bringing the golfing community together whilst raising money for local charities.
Resident golf expert, Golf Manager at Barnham Broom and PGA Professional, Matthew Gardner commented:
This was the first time we had played the Brian Lemmon Charity Golf Day after Brian’s passing last year. We had 220 people playing a Texas scramble in his honour with 97 non-members and 123 members playing over the Hill and Valley courses…This is what Brian loved most, golf with his mates and a drink afterwards – bring on next year. Hopefully we can make it even bigger and better! Go Team Barnham!
