Care home staff and over 150 guests, including recent Big Brother runner up Councillor Joel Williams, were delighted when representatives from the Royal Gwent Hospital League of Friends officially opened Barchester Healthcare’s newest care facility, Bryn Ivor Lodge Care Home, on 22nd July.

Barchester Healthcare runs over 200 care homes across the UK and the care provider’s latest home, Bryn Ivor Lodge in Newport is a stunning 80-bed home which provides top-quality nursing, residential and respite care, as well as specialist dementia care in their Memory Lane Community.

The new home was unveiled by Rachel Morgan, a current volunteer and former Trustee for The League of Friends. She addressed guests before unveiling a commemorative plaque.  Rachel was also pleased to be presented with a cheque for £500 which Bryn Ivor Lodge donated to the charity who had been nominated as the ‘Local Heroes’ by members of the community.

Rachel was thrilled to be asked to open the home and said, ‘I am really overwhelmed with the day, it’s been so lovely and everyone has been so welcoming.’

The event was a lively celebration, with music from The Gershwin Gang jazz quartet and a patriotic performance from Welsh chorus, The Minnesingers who roused the crowd with Welsh Language favourites including Calon Lan and The Welsh National Anthem which got guests singing along proudly.

Helen Randall, General Manager at Bryn Ivor Lodge said: “We are all very excited about the opening of Bryn Ivor Lodge and we have had a fantastic day full of music and celebration!  The hard work begins now and my team and I are looking forward to delivering the very best standards of care to everyone we look after.”
