England Will Bid To Regain Senior Crown

England will bid to regain their crown when the Senior Women’s Home Internationals is played next week on home ground at Burnham & Berrow, Somerset.

The seven-strong team is: Julie Brown from Staffordshire, Aileen Greenfield from Sussex, Jackie Foster from Hertfordshire, Karen Jobling from Yorkshire, Helen Lowe from Leicestershire, Cath Rawthore from Cheshire and Sue Spencer from Staffordshire.

England have dominated the Senior Women’s Home Internationals since it started in 2003, winning the Sue Johnson Trophy 10 times. Most recently the team had three consecutive wins from 2014, but that run of success was ended last year by Ireland.

The round robin competition against Scotland, Ireland and Wales, takes place from Tuesday to Thursday, 2-4 October.

The players, captained by Debbie Richards (Burhill, Surrey), are: 

Julie Brown (Trentham, Staffordshire) is a past winner of the British and English senior amateur titles.  

Jackie Foster (Bishops Stortford, Hertfordshire) was tied fourth in the British seniors and won back-to-back English titles in 2016 and 2017. 

Aileen Greenfield (Pyecombe, Sussex) is the English senior women’s amateur champion and has been runner up for three national titles.  

Karen Jobling (Richmond, Yorkshire) returns to the side having been third in the English senior stroke play championship and 10th in the British.

Helen Lowe (Scraptoft, Leicestershire) won the English senior stroke play title this year and also tied fourth in the British seniors. 

Cath Rawthore (Sale, Cheshire) was runner-up in the British seniors, which she won in 2014. She has also won both English senior titles. 

Sue Spencer, (Whittington Heath, Staffordshire) reached the semi-finals of the senior amateur and took fourth place in the senior stroke play.
