Crown Golf’s Bag Amnesty Kicks Off This Week
Alongside one other rather prominent kick-off this Thursday, Crown Golf’s ‘Bag & Equipment Amnesty’ also starts this week.
On Thursday June 12th, a few hours before U.S Open champion Justin Rose hits his title-defending first tee shot, all 25 Crown Golf venues will open their doors to golfers’ unwanted golf bags and golf clubs.
Each golfer who contributes will receive a voucher worth £20 off their next Callaway Golf Bag, if purchased from a Crown Golf pro shop, and all contributors who have any kind of membership at a Crown Golf club will go into a prize draw to win a trip to the Caribbean island of Grenada, courtesy of the Foundation set up by Premier League footballer Jason Roberts.
All donated items will be delivered to The Golf Trust, for redistribution to disabled golfers, inner-city and outreach projects, and farther afield to Golf Trust projects around the world.
Dozens of bags have already arrived at Crown Golf venues, as pre-launch publicity has appeared in many golf magazines and websites.
Crown Golf has created a character – Henry Baggins – to quarterback its sizeable social media campaign, featuring a new Facebook page and Twitter feed. The group expects both to swell in numbers as golfers and Crown Golf’s team of PGA professionals and sales managers begin to post snapshots of people handing in their old equipment. Golfers are also being asked to nominate Friends on Facebook who are suspected of harbouring multiple old golf bags and clubs in their garages.
The campaign, which was devised by Crown Golf agency Magic Hour Media, runs from Thursday June 12th until Sunday September 28th – the scheduled final day of the 2014 Ryder Cup matches.
“Bag Amnesty will, above all, drive people back into the sport” said Crown Golf Chief Operating Officer, Stephen Towers. “Our teams are energised by the prospect, and we expect Bag Amnesty to be one of this summer’s biggest and most entertaining talking points at our golf clubs”.
