Caversham Heath golf reports
There were very tight finishes in both divisions of the latest Midweek Stableford at Caversham Heath.
Matt Robertson (4hcp) edged the decision in Division 1 with 39 points. Runner-up was Mathew Brakspeare (8hcp), on countback from Michael Beamont (6hcp), both with 38 points. Robertson had halves of 21 and 18 points, recording two birdies and 13 pars. Brakspeare (halves of 18 and 20) had two birdies and 8 pars while Beaumont had two birdies and 10 pars. However a bogey on the last hole proved costly.
It was even tighter in Division 2 with countback needed to decide all the top four places. Brian Connolly (25hcp) got the nod after an impressive 23 points on his back nine, alongside 14 points on the front. He had one four point hole and five three point holes in his tally. Runner-up was Caroline Dover (27hcp). Third was Tony Flood (23hcp) and fourth was Ralph Lambert (21hcp) – all finished with 37 points. Dover ended with a double bogey but it was two nil returns early in her round that proved costly. Flood only picked up four points from his last three holes including a nil return, while Lambert could only muster 8 points from his closing six holes.
Twos were recorded by Lee Kirton (8th hole) and James Millard (17th hole).
