British Junior Golf Tour 2019 Swings Into Action At The Bedford GC

British Junior Golf Tour 2019 Swings Into Action At The Bedford GC

What a start – glorious, warm ‘winter’ sun, coupled with a course in superb condition, with lightning quick greens, made for a wonderful start to the season!
As usual, The Bedford GC played host to the opening event of the BJGT season and once again provided a superb venue, with great facilities, food and friendly atmosphere.
With a third of the field being female (a fantastic turnout from the girls!), it certainly bodes well for the rest of the season and meant that many of the divisions were split, to keep the genders separate.

Junior Open Category

The boys’ section of the Junior Open was headed by Max Weaver, but only after a countback with his club mate, Teddy Hall, after matching 77s, with Micah Blowers two shots back, on 79

Ciara Rushmer made a winning start in the girls’ section, just a shot behind the leading boys, as she posted an impressive 78, ahead of Luca Thompson and Louisa Molloy.

The mixed Net Division saw Ciara Rushmer take her second gold medal of the day, as her 78 resulted in a Net 65, two shots in front of Nick Curran’s 67, who was subsequently two shots ahead of Jack Meakin, on 69.

11-12 Age Group

Jake Valentine made a winning start to his 2019 season in the 11-12 Age Group, with a fine 75, a 2-shot cushion to Oliver Kelloway and Ronnie Groves who tied on 77, with Oliver edging the runner’s-up place on countback.

Sunny Wang produced a superb 79 to take the girls’ gold medal, with Zoe McLean-Tattan in second and Fraya Shiell in third.

9-10 Age Group
The 9-10 Division was topped by Lewis Karim, who took his maiden tour victory in the first event of the new season taking 43 shots to complete the 9 holes, ahead of Freddie Raven on 45 and Luca Randall, who edged third place from Ellis Kerr after another countback to separate their matching 46s.
Lila-Belle Nacca took the girls’ title, and also almost beat the boys, with her 44 beating Maisie Whittall into second on her BJGT debut.
7-8 Age Group

There was another first tour victory in the 7-8 division, which we’re sure will prove a very hotly contested age group, as Zahn Bopiah headed the quality field by 3, after a brilliant 37, with Matthew Whitaker in second on 40, a single shot in front of Fraser Walters.

6 & Under Age Group

The 6 & Under division saw yet another new winner in the shape of Freddie Buck, who took gold with a one-shot victory over last year’s champion, Sebastian Duffield, after a 38 and 39, respectively, with Marcus Karim adding a bronze medal to the family’s haul, just two shots further back.

The Tour now moves on to Event 2, at Oak Park GC, in Surrey – this will include the IMG Academy Junior World Championships Qualifier for the 6 & Under division.

It’s great to be back!
